THE DISAPPOINTED PRINCE

APRIL 2014

There the prince sat on his throne of self’s backs,

Smiling with wrath; his will will soon tax:

Land, sea, you see, all the eye sees,

A Caesar himself, hist’ry to seize:

Imagin’d pleasers fawn, they fast by his feet,

Yet how they smell, as corrupt as discrete.

When he dried his lips and silenced the room,

Men bowed in dread for more egos sent to the tomb:

“I am the prince. I am disappointed -

With fury! Not only for you of tongues and ears;

You, of only hopes, open mouthed in fears.'

“I am disappointed with everything”,

he once infamously said.

“Do pour the brandy I’ll have one more,

(I only drink when my fury's a bore)

Listen-

For you who hope these sips might spill or crack,

My states of rule, that through rules relax…’,

Ah, then I was sent to carry something,

A certain dullness, p'haps of a thousand words,

A certain dullness, for the lumbering herds;

True – Caesar is right, then more, listen again:

“We’ve always indulged, but only to hold back;

And always found nothing in everything we lack

Please -

Indulge me in a struggle, some resistance would do,

For me, for all, for all I once did for you;

Hear my words: I make even poets wince,

Their women made harlots, and their Devil, a prince!”

‘I am disappointed with everything’,

he once infamously said.

And we are and should all be in awe of Him.

I served wine to the people of the court of Caesar.
