SLUMBER FINALE

APRIL 2015

Suddenly I remembered where I was,

found myself lounging in adventurous cycles,

accompanying the winds whistles

and playing make believe with the sun in circles,

I who deliberately ignore health warnings,

And seek out household necessities –

With shortcuts, I draw the line at geography;

God-awful challenges and scintillating monotony I cannot refuse;

My job is to plan invasions and mercilessly defend my string of islands;

You people tell me they have long decayed and use the word ‘corrupt’ -

I’ve wiped out many dissenters and I’ll wipe out many more

I hold hands, stroke sides and cling to hair;

What I realise now is that I’ve always enjoyed humid, hot exhausting weather;

Biting cold winds smother me like curtains –

Their rough sting forces me to nap in the noon and lose track of time and purpose;

Soon I will make brash, inconsiderate demands,

And learn how to watch the sunset in peace.

First though, let us enjoy this finale of slumbers together...
